Restorative Practice

Repairing workplace relationships after conflict

Restorative practices are useful to mend and reinvigorate workplace relationships that have been adversely affected by poor conduct by team members or an organisation’s flawed management of an issue.

While the needs of the people who have experienced harm are prioritised, the goal is for those involved to build understanding, repair working relationships and move forward.

Restorative practices can be used as an initial response to a workplace complaint, to team dysfunction or in the aftermath of an investigation.

Restorative processes follows similar principals to mediation  â€“ they are confidential and future focused.

Restorative Practice in the Workplace

When used as an alternative to workplace investigation, a restorative process enables the complainant/s to be heard, the respondent to understand and show remorse for the impacts of his/her conduct, and for the parties to discuss how to rebuild their working relationship.

This approach can also assist your organisation to consider if systemic issues contributed and make changes to prevent recurrence.

Utilising independent restorative practices can:

  • Enable the parties to consider their future working relationship and agree on ways to work together
  • Allow a complainant to suggest organisational changes that reduce the risk of future misconduct
  • Be invaluable when your organisation needs to prioritise communication
  • Enhance organisational trust
Our Approach

Restorative practices are invaluable when your organisation needs to prioritise communication, connection and repair as necessary steps to build a psychologically safe workplace.

The Restorative Practice team at Worklogic are experienced, accredited, and skilled at working with people to resolve disputes in a cost-effective and fair manner.

Our process is confidential, balanced and impartial.

Our first step is to discuss with you whether a particular workplace situation is suitable for a restorative process.

Once agreement is reached to participate in the restorative process, we will:

  1. Arrange to meet the participants separately to understand the issues and to explain the process
  2. Bring the participants together to outline their concerns and engage in facilitated discussion
  3. Encourage them to understand the issues from each other’s perspective
  4. Ensure neither participant feels disadvantaged, so that they can properly engage in fair and equal discussions and negotiations
  5. Encourage them to explore a restorative solution

Our approach gives participants the opportunity to resolve their differences in a structured, fair and neutral environment.  At the end of the restorative process, everyone involved is better able to manage working relationships.

This is why clients trust us to mediate conflict in their workplaces.
